Mr. Molloy has been dubbed the "Swiss Army Knife" of the SCN music faculty (see teaching schedule). Actually he's Canadian, born and raised in St. John's, Newfoundland. He was a trumpet major at Memorial University of Newfoundland where he earned a bachelor of music and a bachelor of music education. He completed his master of music degree in choral conducting from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. Mike is very fortunate to have studied under two of the leading figures in vocal jazz education: Dr. Steve Zegree at WMU and Mr. Phil Mattson at the School for Music Vocations. As an educator, he has taught every level from elementary through college; most recently Roosevelt University. In addition to working with the wonderful music students at St. Charles North, Mike is assistant conductor of the Evanston-based professional choir Lakeside Singers, and is an active singer, arranger and clinician. The shameless name-dropping section of cool people Mr. Molloy has sung and/or played with includes: Bobby McFerrin, Darmon Meader, Howard Levy, Don Shelton, Michele Weir, Rosemary Clooney, Richie Cole, and Rita Moreno.
