Friends of Music Elections for 2010-2011

Dear SCN Music Parents,

I am writing you with very important information regarding our parent organization, the Friends of Music.  Please read carefully as we need every music parent’s  input in the coming days.

First, I want to thank this year’s board members Robin Fleming (President), Lori Georgeson (Vice-President), Denise Ardelan (Treasurer), and Beth Baldwin (Recording Secretary) for all their time and effort in this first year of elected positions! It has been a fantastic year working with all of you on behalf of the students.

I also want to thank all of our parents because more of you have been involved in our organization than ever before.  It is clear that you sense the importance of having vibrant support in the arts. In the next few years, the school and district will face increased budget cuts.  Therefore increased parent involvement will be critical to support the department’s vision of seeking to provide the finest music education in the country.  With over 800 parents in our program, I know that we can grow and benefit from your individual talents and expertise. With your support, we can give our students what they deserve—the best.
                                                                                                          
Please take a few moments and review the process for nominations and elections for the organization.

2010-2011 Elections

It is again time for all music parents to elect the next Friends of Music Executive Board.  The Executive Board supports the Music Department goals, sets the direction of the organization and builds our volunteer base and committees.  During the school year, the Executive Board meets with me approximately once a month.

Please nominate candidates (or self-nominate) for the following positions:

Vice-President/President Elect (2-year term): Assists the President in all efforts to increase involvement in the Friends of Music and move the organization forward in concert with department goals.

Treasurer (1-year term): Tracks income, expenses and budgets. A working knowledge of Excel Spreadsheets is a plus.

Recording Secretary (1-year term): records and maintains accurate records of meetings. Prepares and mails correspondence.

Finance/Fundraising Chair (1-year term):  coordinates Finance/Fundraising Committee meetings to pursue and implement fundraising ideas and financial support within our community, reports monthly the fundraising work to Executive Board, coordinates with other boards as appropriate.

Lori Georgeson (having been the Vice President/President Elect this year) will serve as our 2010-2011 Friends of Music President and will coordinate the election.

Nominations will be accepted by email (please send to fomcommunications@gmail.com) from now through May 26, 2010.  Lori Georgeson will contact the nominees and ask them to assemble a short biography so that all parents can learn a little bit about each nominee (the candidates’ biographies will be sent Tuesday, June 1, 2010).   The online election will take place between Friday, June 4th and Sunday night, June 6th, 2010 and you will receive an e-mail regarding this easy online voting process.  The announcement of new board members will be emailed to the membership by Wednesday June 9, 2010.
